Mars: Obsidian, silica aerogel, colored glass.
The past and future of Mars. Now dormant, the red planet once hosted the most active volcanos in the solar system. No longer emitting heat, a future proposal is to use silica aerogel. Present day Mars rovers are outfitted with this material as a human sized block of aerogel weighs less than a pound yet can support the weight of 1000lbs. Moreover, as it is translucent, it allows visible light to pass through yet block harmful ultraviolet light. By building with silica aerogel, one could artificially produce warmer environments and create photosynthetic life, generating a solid-state analogue to Earths atmospheric greenhouse effect. Here, I’ve joined both the past and future together with volcanic rock (Obsidian) silica aerogel, and colored glass.
